MY THOUGHTS

I had already written this review, but my computer crashed and so therefore I hope, what follows, is something similar to what I had written before.

 

This is the story of three women, Eleanor, Nancy and Mary. Three intelligent but imperfect women.

Having meet at university they have all taken a different path in life as we, the reader, meet them now all in their mid 40’s.

It is a story of three women questioning their lives, wondering how they have come to be where they are.  A story of friendship, disappointments, and losing sight of ones shelf.

The story opens with Eleanor receiving a phone call, in the early hours of the morning, from Nancy’s husband.  Nancy still hasn’t returned home from spending the evening with Elanor and her husband is decidedly worried.  Eleanor rushes over to Nancy’s house and as the story behind Nancy unfolds there is a knock at the door.  Nancy has been found, dead and it looks like murder.

I loved the way this book explores the lives and feeling of all the characters plus, at the same time, keeping me gripped on the mystery surrounding Nancy’s death.

The story is divided up into parts narrated by each of the three main characters.  It gave a great overview of not only the mystery behind the murder but also an in-depth look at the lives, husbands and children of each of the women.  The death of their friend opens up a flood gate of feelings, particularly for Eleanor, and they begin to ask themselves if they could have helped their friend more.  The author does a great job of making the characters very believable with all there flaws on show as they begin to question their own mistakes.

As the three parts start to come together the tension mounts as we learn of what happened to Nancy that night.

A great blend of psychological thriller and crime fiction that had me gripped.
